Why work for us?

We care about our colleagues and really want them to feel part of our family business – to enjoy coming to work, to feel safe, included and valued.

Our values run through everything we do – importantly, we’re not just talking about the values we’re actually living them too. And in turn this is having an impact on our culture and helping us put a great culture at the heart of what we do. We’re a family business with very caring and supportive shareholders who take an active role in helping us to look after colleagues.

We have an Employee Benefits Trust (EBT) with trustees who are family members and they have backed so many initiatives which help our colleagues, such as

It’s all for you

We have sports awards which can be used to buy equipment for a colleagues’ sport team, helping them and those close to them lead healthier lives.

We provide financial support to colleagues’ children when they go to university.

We send apples each week to colleagues in our businesses which don’t have access to fresh fruit and veg.

Our EBT paid for Covid testing long before it was something the Government offered during the pandemic.

And in one of our more remote businesses, which isn’t near any shops, the EBT provides nutritious hot lunches for colleagues.

Bringing our colleagues together

Our businesses are all unique, operating in different areas of the food industry, but we are one family and try regularly to bring people together.

Historically we have held charity challenges and raised thousands of pounds for charity by conquering hills and mountains together.

This year, our businesses are competing against each other and family members at our dragon boat festival. We’re also looking forward to tree planting together and our awards celebration in December.

Celebrating our colleagues

Our values run through everything we do, which not only helps our colleagues feel valued it encourages them to value others around them.

We have an Appreciation Wall where colleagues nominate each other for recognition.

We also have an annual awards celebration which thanks those people who go above and beyond and this is tied to our values.

Health and safety is incredibly important to us too and we have a monthly award to celebrate a colleague from each business who is leading by example of outstanding health and safety practices.

When a colleagues has been with one of our Group businesses for 10, 25 or 40 years we reward the loyalty and faith they’ve had in us with a long-service award. It’s really important to say thank you, show them we care and appreciate the ongoing part they play in helping our business succeed.

Our communities

Our values and culture help us outside of work too – we believe a community should be a better place for having one of our businesses in it and each of our businesses works really hard to volunteer in their community.

All colleagues are given a paid day each year to use for volunteering – and each year we try to target our businesses to improve uptake of volunteering.

We also support colleagues in their own charity fundraising, by making donations to a cause of their choice when they have taken on a challenge.

Mental HEalth

As a responsible employer, we also take wellbeing very seriously and for many years have provided a free and confidential support service to all of our colleagues.

Across the past couple of years we’ve raised the profile of the importance of good mental health across our businesses and we’re pleased to say we now have around 70 mental health first aiders across the Group.
